Day of genocide of Azerbaijanis
March 31, Monday

Historical Context
Genocide Day is associated with the events that took place in 1918, when Armenian armed forces committed mass killings and violence against Azerbaijanis in various regions of the Caucasus, especially in Baku, Shamakhi and other cities. These events took place against the backdrop of political instability and bloody power struggles between different ethnic and political groups during the collapse of the Russian Empire.
One of the most tragic episodes was the killing of tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis, including women, children and the elderly. Many people were driven from their homes, subjected to violence and torture. These events became known as the March Events or the 1918 Genocide, and are considered one of the most tragic pages in the history of Azerbaijan.
